I have been working with ceramics for more than 50 years now. My educational background is a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio State University. Professionally, I have taught ceramics at a sheltered workshop for 10 years and have had my own studio since 2005. In addition, I am trained as a technical assistant, where knowledge of various drawing programs has proven to be useful tools that I apply in my ceramic work. I primarily work with stoneware, using both slab construction and wheel throwing. In the diversity of slabs, I constantly find new challenges. I am fascinated by modules and the possibilities that arise from repeating, turning, rotating, and moving a form—both in the construction of the piece itself and in the relationships between pieces. At the wheel, I find peace and balance. Here, I play with form and the beauty of curves. Color—the glaze—is the finishing touch. Sometimes the glaze must be simple and radiate calm, allowing the form to be the focus. With other pieces, it is the play of colors in the glaze that captivates me.
